The session ‘Sustainable development and the role of communities: from agglomerations to harmonious development of cities, regions and local associations’ will take place within the framework of the R

The aim of the session is to discuss challenges and opportunities within the concept of sustainable development on the example of agglomerations, local communities, medium and small cities. The exchange of ideas and examples of successful integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into planning and management will enable economic growth, social equity and environmental well-being.

The main topics to be discussed in the session are:

The applicability of the 2015 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) not only to megacities, but also to smaller cities and regional centres, as well as suburbs and rural areas.

Interconnection of different spheres of ESG sustainability (environmental sustainability in the context of urban and rural areas, economic sustainability and inclusive growth, social sustainability and community development) in the context of competing agglomerations and local community development.

Discussion of cases of successful implementation of sustainable development principles, urban transformation and harmonious development of territories (examples of urban infrastructure and transport development, strengthening sustainable education and social support systems, cultural heritage issues) in the SCO, BRICS, CIS and OIC countries.

Participants from more than 15 countries are invited to take part in the session.
