The aim of the session is to discuss challenges and opportunities within the concept of sustainable development using the examples of agglomerations, local communities, medium and small cities. Sharing ideas and examples of successful integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into planning and management will ensure economic growth, social equity and environmental well-being.
The main topics to be discussed in the session are:
Applicability of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) formulated in 2015 by the UN not only to megacities, but also to small cities and regional centres, as well as suburbs and rural areas.
Interconnection of different spheres of ESG sustainability (environmental sustainability in the context of urban and rural areas, economic sustainability and inclusive growth, social sustainability and community development) in the context of competing agglomerations and local community development.
Discussion of cases of successful implementation of sustainable development principles, urban transformation and harmonious development of territories (examples of urban infrastructure and transport development, strengthening of sustainable education and social support systems, cultural heritage issues) in the SCO, BRICS, CIS and OIC countries.
